WASHINGTON, D.C. \u2014 Long before the opening whistle, the energy around Audi Field was already building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El Salvador Heritage Night brought an unmistakable sense of celebration to the evening, with Salvadoran culture, colors and pride adding to the atmosphere as supporters made their way toward the stadium. The excitement outside carried through the gates, turning the buildup to D.C. United\u2019s meeting with Nashville SC into more than the usual pregame arrival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the stands began to fill, that energy followed the crowd inside. Supporters settled in beneath the lights at Audi Field with the anticipation of an MLS night ahead, and by the time the teams emerged, the celebration surrounding the stadium had given way to the tension and expectation of the match itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then the whistle blew, and the night took on an entirely different intensity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From the opening minutes, D.C. United and Nashville SC played with the urgency of two teams expecting a fight. D.C., feeding off the home crowd, looked to push forward and turn the atmosphere inside Audi Field into an advantage, while Nashville showed the composure of a side that had established itself among the Eastern Conference\u2019s strongest teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was also some unfinished business between them. Their first meeting of the season had produced a 2\u20132 draw in Nashville, setting the stage for another competitive night when the two sides met again in Washington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the first half developed, the intensity increased. Challenges became sharper, space became harder to find, and every attack seemed to pull another reaction from the crowd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then Nashville found the breakthrough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sam Surridge struck in the 32nd minute, quieting some of the celebration that had filled Audi Field only moments earlier. Before D.C. could fully recover, Nashville struck again. Shak Mohammed added a second in the 40th minute, suddenly turning an electric night in Washington into a serious test for the Black-and-Red.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By halftime, D.C. United trailed 2\u20130.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the night was far from finished.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whatever was said inside the D.C. United locker room at halftime, the response was immediate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Black-and-Red returned to the field with renewed urgency, pushing higher and forcing Nashville to deal with a side that looked determined to change the direction of the night. The crowd responded as well. Every promising move brought the noise back into Audi Field, and the two-goal deficit suddenly began to feel less secure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the 56th minute, D.C. got exactly the breakthrough it needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Silvan Hefti found the net to cut Nashville\u2019s advantage to 2\u20131, and in an instant the energy inside the stadium changed. What had looked like a comfortable Nashville lead was now a one-goal game, with D.C. pushing and the home crowd sensing that there was still something to be taken from the night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pressure continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then, in the 77th minute, Audi Field erupted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tai Baribo delivered the equalizer, completing D.C. United\u2019s climb back from two goals down and bringing the match level at 2\u20132. The celebration reflected more than a single goal\u2014it was the release of an entire second half spent fighting to get back into a game that had appeared to be slipping away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the score level and the crowd fully engaged again, the closing minutes became a search for one more moment. Both sides had already landed their punches, but now the question was whether either could find a winner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Neither side could find the final breakthrough. After Nashville controlled the scoreboard in the first half and D.C. United answered with two goals of its own after the break, the final whistle brought an absorbing night at Audi Field to a close with the teams sharing the points in a 2\u20132 draw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the supporters who had arrived amid the color and celebration of El Salvador Heritage Night, the evening delivered plenty to remember. What began as a festive summer night in Washington became a four-goal battle under the lights, with D.C. refusing to let a two-goal deficit define the night and giving the home crowd one final reason to celebrate before leaving Audi Field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
