Morgan State arrived at Villanova with growing confidence and an opportunity to build on one of its strongest starts in years. Coming off a bye week following a 41–26 victory over Towson on September 19, the Bears entered the afternoon at 3–1 under head coach Damon Wilson. That win had ended a 17-year drought against their Baltimore-area rivals, and the trip to Pennsylvania presented another test of the program’s progress.
Villanova entered at 2–3, but its record told only part of the story. The Wildcats had reached the FCS semifinals the previous season and carried a streak of 21 consecutive regular-season victories against nonconference FCS opponents. This was only the second meeting between the schools, with Villanova winning their first encounter in 2014.

Morgan made its intentions clear early. Cameron Edge opened the scoring with a five-yard touchdown run, and after Isaiah Ragland answered for Villanova, Edge connected with Keith Jenkins Jr. on a 45-yard touchdown pass. The Bears finished the first quarter ahead 14–7.
Alex Amaya added a 39-yard field goal before Ragland’s second rushing touchdown brought the Wildcats closer. Morgan responded again before halftime, with Edge finding Malachi Bryant for a 19-yard touchdown with 21 seconds remaining. The Bears headed into the break leading 24–14.

Villanova worked its way back through its running game. Ja’briel Mace scored from one yard out in the third quarter, and Ragland’s 22-yard touchdown run early in the fourth gave the Wildcats their first lead at 28–24.
The advantage changed hands twice more almost immediately. Edge found Joseph Towler for a 64-yard touchdown to restore Morgan’s lead, only for Mace to break free for a 52-yard score that put Villanova ahead 35–31. Three touchdowns in a span of two minutes and 20 seconds had transformed the game into a tense fourth-quarter contest.

Morgan’s chances narrowed when Jamie Tyson intercepted Edge in the end zone on fourth down with 2:45 remaining. The Bears’ defense, however, forced a punt, giving the offense another opportunity from its own 44-yard line with 1:51 left.
Edge completed five consecutive passes to move Morgan to the Villanova two-yard line. He then finished the possession himself, scoring on a two-yard run with 36 seconds remaining. Amaya’s extra point put the Bears ahead 38–35.

Villanova still had time for one final response. Quarterback Pat McQuaide moved the Wildcats into field-goal range, setting up Dominic LeBlanc for a 47-yard attempt. His kick missed wide right as time expired, securing Morgan’s third consecutive victory.

Edge finished with 444 passing yards, completing 31 of 40 attempts with three touchdown passes and two rushing scores. His passing total ranked third in Morgan State history. Justin Perry contributed 152 receiving yards on six catches, while Jenkins caught eight passes for 87 yards and a touchdown.
The Bears improved to 4–1 for the first time since 2009, returning to Baltimore with another significant road victory. After ending their long wait for a win over Towson, Morgan had followed it by ending Villanova’s lengthy non conference winning streak.
