Colton Delivers as DC Power Stand Firm Against Dallas at Audi Field

DC Power returned to Audi Field on Sunday with an opportunity to create separation from a nearby rival in the standings. Emily Colton supplied the early breakthrough, and Power protected it the rest of the way, defeating Dallas Trinity 1–0 behind four saves from goalkeeper Katie Cappelletti. The result delivered DC’s fourth victory and first clean sheet of the season.

The buildup carried significance beyond a return home. Both clubs entered with 11 points, with DC fourth and Dallas fifth in the Gainbridge Super League standings. Power were looking to respond to a 1–0 defeat at Carolina Ascent, while Trinity’s previous league outing had ended in a 1–1 draw at Brooklyn. With little separating the teams, Sunday offered a chance to take points directly from a fellow playoff contender.

There was also an earlier result for DC to answer. Dallas had won the first meeting of the fall season 2–1 at home, with Onyeka Gamero and Jasmine Hamid scoring for Trinity. Back in Washington, Power were seeking consecutive home victories after beating Fort Lauderdale before the international break.

The decisive moment arrived in the 10th minute. Abby Boyan struck a shot from outside the penalty area that came back off the crossbar, and Colton reacted to the rebound to put DC ahead. Her second goal of the season gave Power an advantage that would withstand every Dallas attempt to change the afternoon’s outcome.

Trinity reached halftime still trailing, then continued its pursuit of an equalizer after the break. The visitors finished with 58 percent possession and an 11–6 advantage in shots, including four attempts on target to DC’s two. Those numbers reflected Dallas’s efforts to recover, but Power kept the visitors from converting their greater share of the ball into a goal.

Cappelletti’s four saves anchored that resistance. In front of her, Claire Constant contributed four clearances and won five of her seven duels across the full match. A contest featuring more than 35 fouls demanded concentration as well as defensive work, and DC preserved its narrow lead through the final whistle.

For Dallas, the stronger second-half response brought no reward on the scoreboard. For Power, an early opportunity taken and a lead successfully defended produced three points against a team that had begun the day alongside them. DC finished the match on 14 points, three clear of Trinity’s 11.
