Morgan State returned to Hill Field House on Friday night with an opportunity to strengthen its position in the MEAC race and settle unfinished business against North Carolina Central. With the conference’s Game of the Week spotlight on Baltimore and a Halloween costume contest on the evening’s program, the Bears opened a home weekend carrying expectations built through a competitive October.

Morgan entered at 6–3 in conference play, while North Carolina Central arrived at 4–5 after sweeping Maryland Eastern Shore. The Eagles had won the teams’ earlier meeting in Durham in five sets, adding another lengthy contest to a series whose previous four matches had all gone the distance.

This time, North Carolina Central controlled the closing stages of all three sets, defeating Morgan 25–23, 25–21, 27–25 to complete the season sweep. The result left both teams at 7–15 overall, with Morgan moving to 6–4 in the MEAC and the Eagles reaching 5–5.

The opening set offered an early example of the narrow margins separating the teams. Trailing 24–20, Morgan scored three consecutive points to threaten a comeback before Shalyn Bell delivered the kill that secured the set for Central. Michaela Panekova contributed four kills for the Bears, while setter Isabelle Brown supplied nine assists.

Morgan remained competitive in a second set featuring 14 ties and eight lead changes. Hanna Nemeth produced six kills, but the Eagles broke away from a 20–20 tie with four unanswered points and moved within one set of victory.

The Bears’ clearest opportunity came in the third. A kill from Tyrah Weems established a 22–16 advantage, putting Morgan within three points of extending the match. Central responded with an 11–3 closing run, overturning the deficit before Kayla Riley finished the contest with a kill assisted by Lusiana Damuni.

Nemeth gave Morgan a standout individual performance, finishing with a match-high 14 kills, a .565 hitting percentage and 12 digs for her first double-double of the season. Brown added 29 assists and seven digs, Panekova finished with nine kills, and Tre’Niya Miller contributed five kills on six attempts, all in the third set.

Riley led Central with 11 kills on .526 hitting, while Talia Emmen added nine kills and two service aces. Hailey Gibbons recorded 13 digs.

For Morgan, the immediate opportunity to respond comes Sunday, November 1, against South Carolina State at Hill Field House. The Youth and Community Day and Orange Out match gives the Bears another home assignment as the regular season enters its final stretch.

Final Score: North Carolina Central 3, Morgan State 0
Set Scores: 25–23, 25–21, 27–25
